This is how much I liked this book: When I stopped reading last night I was at 97% and not only did I not realize it, but I was in no hurry to pick it up again today. I had even considered just not finishing it because the climax was as much a waste as the rest of the story, but since I challenged myself to review every book this year I just sucked it up and finished anyway. The story is so far below what it could be in a capable authors hands! I like the premise, but there was no point in this story that I believed anything that DeStefano was asking me to believe. Nothing. Rhine was nothing special. Cecily was annoying. Linden was pathetic (how many times did Rhine refer to him as something frail..or however it was she kept saying. Also what does it say that I just put this down and remember almost nothing about it?!). Jenna was intriguing, but we don't get to know anything about her. Vaughn is clearly supposed to be the bad guy here, but it falls flat on that thread as well.
Everything is just told to us, and nothing really gets experienced. Rhine is whining about being trapped and then is considering having her maid come in to rub her poor little ankles that are tired from the high heels she had to wear to an amazing party that she enjoyed. There was never a moment when I wanted to see her succeed in her plan to escape, but there was also barely any feeling to want to see her fail (though I would say if anything I would have liked seeing her fail before seeing her succeed, but that's because I found her so incredibly annoying--and useless).
I can't even go on to be honest. Every single thing annoyed me, and it was torture getting through this. I am very much in the minority though, but even with the plethora of positive reviews I would not wish this book on anyone.
