One Grave at a Time - Jeaniene Frost

4.5 Stars

AH!! Finally I get to read a book that excites me and drags me into its world because it is told so well! The last couple of books I have read have been a disappointment, but I knew that I was going to be in for a treat with Jeaniene Frost.

I'm a fan of Cat and Bones, and I love how their dynamic is progressing! Cat has learned a lot from her prior mistakes and acts like an adult would when considering the ramifications of her actions. I love how much they adore each other, and Bones is one of my favorite fictional males ever.

I was a little concerned that I would not remember enough of the prior stories to make reading this one as easy as if I had just done a series re-read, but once again I forget how great a storyteller Frost truly is. To my embarrassment, I didn't realize I had missed the release day of this installment due to my changing the way I follow my favorite authors (and getting a Kindle while having the only local book store close down). I look forward to release days almost like a holiday, and this is one of my favorite series. I wish I could have supported her opening sales, but I'm sure she'll forgive me.

If you are considering reading this book then I would assume you are familiar with the series since this is the sixth installment, but if you happened to stumble upon this one first, do yourself a favor and pick up book one. This is a series that has wry humor, sexy characters, tension, layered story lines, and much more! In fact that is the only negative thing I have to say about this one, is that I wanted a bit more about that prick who took over for Tate. I really hope he gets his ass handed to him in the next book.

Here are some of the quotes I highlighted in this story, and it is such a great example of why I adore Frost's writing! Even more so for me right now because of the rash of less-than-good books I have read lately. Oh, these are not ALL of them, but I didn't realize my Kindle could highlight for me until later in the story, lol. It's past time I make a better effort to figure out the little ins and outs of this devise.

"And you know that because you can somehow use the Force now?" I asked, trying to limit the dubiousness in my tone.

"Then I pushed those thoughts aside and rapped on the door. I could have my personal identity crisis later, when someone else's life wasn't on the line."

"Not leaving," Tyler gritted out. "But get off...my fucking kidney."

"I couldn't help my snort of laughter. Dumb-ass? Tyler was the one refusing to go to safety Talk about the proverbial pot and kettle."

Tyler patted his shoulder in a comforting way. "Family. Aren't they a motherfucker sometimes?"

"I'm twenty-nine years old, not two hundred and twenty-nine. I navigate by GPS, Mapquest, or TomTom. Not the fucking stars, 'k?"

**This one made me laugh much harder than it would have otherwise (though I would have chuckled no matter what because of how cheeky it is), because of the recent drama from some authors.**

"Now his gaze gleamed with outrage. He shut the book with a bang, stalking over to me. Writers were so sensitive when it came to criticism."

I recommend this series to anyone who likes a kick-ass heroine, a lot of action, sexy characters (and a little steamy sex too), and having an emotional attachment to your fictional characters.
